Dale Derkatch is the leading scorer in Regina Pats history, having amassed 491 points during a period that spanned 1981 to 1985.
His number (16) has been retired by the Western Hockey League team as a tribute to a junior career that included 222 goals in 204 games.
Derkatch was named the WHL’s rookie of the year after registering 142 points, including 62 goals, in 1981-82. He followed up with an 84-goal, 179-point season in 1982-83 before producing 159 points (including 72 goals) in 1983-84.
He starred for the Notre Dame Hounds before advancing to the major junior ranks.
Post-WHL, Derkatch starred as a player in Europe for 14 seasons.
Derkatch was an NHL scout with Washington, Toronto and Columbus. He was also the director of hockey development at Notre Dame (2004-08) and the Prince Albert Raiders’ director of player personnel (2008-15).
The Pats’ head coach in 2007-08, he was named the team’s general manager on June 24, 2025.
